Hi there AppWorks fans,
Welcome to a new installment of AppWorks tips.
This post will give you a “limited” wrap-up of the ‘Enterprise World (Las Vegas) V-pass 2024 Q4’ event from last month (November 18-21, 2024)! A multi-day event physically happening in Las Vegas with lots of sharing sessions to join. I did not join the party in the United States (yet!) but signed myself in for a virtual pass. The V-pass is free and gives a view on the static (30-day) available content! Let’s see what value we can grab.
My focus points these days (as technical consultant) to keep you updated with “OpenText Process Automation” (AppWorks) related information: ‘Process Automation’, ‘Documentum’, ‘SmartView’, ‘OTDS’, ‘Core Content’ ‘Thrust API’ (Developer Cloud Platform), ‘Intelligent Viewing’, ‘xECM’ (OTCS), ‘AI’ (Aviator), and more…
Let get right into it…
A first glimpse of the portal for the virtual pass (which I find extremely limited with only the two main sessions to follow at the moment of writing:
The week after I see more keynotes passing by, but for me personally not worth the time to go through. Let’s say they have a high sales way of presenting where I’m a “techie”! 🤓
What can we do in this portal; At this time of writing…Not much (besides some sales stuff and sponsor viewing)! Just sit and wait until the main act is starting. Watch also out for #opentextworld2024!
Time to consume the CEO keynote from Mark J. Barrenechea…Good luck!
Vision and innovations keynote: Information reimagined (by Mark J. Barrenechea)
Live from “The Venetian Resort Las Vegas”; It’s 18.00 CET November 19th; Just in time…
Information is any piece of data created by humans and machines (reimagined!)
Real people, real problems, real solutions!
…
“Reimagine the titanium platform where machines do the work”
Automation will never end; This, with data, and AI is the new potential for optimizations. This center in information for human potential. Talent and Data (proprietary gifts at organizations).
The five waves of pioneered Information Management (IM):
- Content Management (1991-2000); Metadata, Digital fax, Searching, CMS, Intranet, and Indexing.
- Information Management (2000-2007); RM, Capture, Integration, Knowledge management, Archive, Collaboration, and Compliance.
- Digital Business (2007-2015); Automation, Governance, Analytics, IoT, BPM, Multi-factor auth., and End-point protection.
- Information Reimagined (2015-2024); Composable apps, Multi-cloud, Cybersecurity, AI&LLM, Threat detection, Service management, and Legal review.
- … (2024-?); What will be next?
…
The future is awesome where in a decade Mark will be 70 years old; Our children will have a life span of one hundred with an IQ of 160. There will be infinite energy from fusion, and all is autonomous with the new internet and the clouds.
The future powers by “Business clouds”, “Business AI”, and “Business Technology”.
A quote from (The Matrix): Never send a human to do a machine's job
The future is slowed by islands of disconnected data; The future accelerates by integration with a great strategy (incl. the release moments every quarter):
- Knowledge management and experience cloud
- Business network cloud
- Digital infrastructure cloud
- Security cloud
- Developer cloud
These bullets are all supported by business AI over “Aviators” where AI data cloud is global, trusted, and secure; And where multi-cloud is open, integrated, and nature positive.
API-data-cloud: Leverage your data, build an app, and solve a problem!
…
The move of business AI:
- AI/ML predictive analytics (deprecated)
- GenAI for smarter search and automation (deprecated)
- “Agents” is an automotive piece of code making decisions smarter (where we are now)
- Agentic AI (autonomous agents) that will challenge us (where we move to); Read this interesting Forbes post as well.
- Artificial General Intelligence (where the future is)
- “Aviator” = Technology
- “Agent” = Autonomous decisions for specific use cases
- “Agentic AI” = Sophisticated reasoning to autonomously solve complex, multistep processes
Embed everywhere, run anywhere; and Bring Your Own Model (BYOM); Even on premise!
The heatmap of AI over the last year:
Internally at OpenText we have “OllieAI”!
Sounds like the good old content server with business workspaces on AI steroids during all the demos passing by! 💪
At least that’s what the URL exposes at:otcs.dev.ollie.opentext.ai/cs/cs/app
Jet Assistant Take-Off (JATO); AI agents at work where you see Aviator back in all the products UI. Remember all the side-panels in all the OpenText demos? That’s a JETO AI Agent! You’ll see it back everywhere where a summary is possible to make; Like Google and Bing also show AI results in side panels during a search session.
OpenText makes multi-cloud work with “Zero copy data”, “User authentication & Information access control”, “Workflow and Search”, “Threat detection and Response”, “Asset discovery and Observability”, “Supply chain with traceability & IoT and QR-codes”.
The OpenText cloud platform
OpenText is investing on being the biggest, trusted, and best compliance platform cloud in the world.
AI Data cloud
Strategy for “Thrust” services for the APIs via ReST services. This is services working together with data ingestion, protection, and risk-management with compliance. This is what’s available today at developer.opentext.com:
Some demo’s pass by, but the developer cloud demo (by Nick King) is the most interesting…Also, the only one daring to do it live! Excellent job!
Top data breaches over the last year; With OT cloud you can avoid it via trusted & secure computing:
- Help desks; Hopefully not “Billy the AI robot”. 🤣
- Reset passwords; We see this with each large company with self-recovery links.
- Patch management with asset discovery; Every project requires a release package with/without hotfixes or patches.
- Store your data in content management; Always an excellent choice for your content and metadata.
- Mask data; You always require something to remove for compliance rules.
- Use biometrics; To verify it’s really you.
- Comprehensive monitoring and analysis; Your administrators will love you for it when implemented correctly.
After all the demo’s passing by there is one quote standing out: IT’S ALL FANTASTIC! 😍
…
Finally, to put more “Thrust”; this is what OpenText will do for the future:
Over and out…
Technology keynote: Information reimagined (by Muhi S. Majzoub)
Almost 18.00 CET November 20th; It’s the second day virtually at OpenText World which means it’s “Muhi-time”, so grab your soda/peanuts and have yourself an update on some next-gen-tech! I’m a little early today:
…
But there he is…
The year in review:
- Cloud parity across all business clouds
- Achieved new security and compliance standards across Business Clouds
- Advanced capabilities within OpenText cybersecurity across enterprise, SMB, and customer
- Discovered new jobs done with AI to advance the knowledge worker
- Upheld our AI bill of obligations while advancing trust with AI
OpenText is trustworthy with security, protecting data, and not sending data outside (not even via AI!). Well, AppWorks (No, “OpenText Process Automation”!) does it what we’ve seen (over OpenAI or Gemini)!? But hopefully the Bring Your Own Model will change this for the future for our beloved platform.

…
What’s new in OpenText CE 24.1 - 24.4 (with a release each quarter to get the advantage of all the new features)
…
After 2024, we’ll get 2025!…This is what will be new then:
…
Interesting; The OpenText software delivery platform (powered by OpenText Core). This all sounds pretty obvious, but you don’t want to know what we see passing by in our daily projects on improvements…Let’s not even start talking AI at these projects (yet!)
“Shift left”; Security with DevSecOps and with a security-first mindset. This platform smells like “Jira” on steroids with AI and Jenkins CI/CD all-in-one. The sky is the limit with this platform where even generating tests is possible. It’s all about automation, automating, and automotive with GenAI, neural networks, and LLMs.
The demos look great (as always) with a specific use-case; I always have my questions from a developer point-of-view. Let’s see how valuable it is for the long-run as the grass is not always as green as we see (otherwise you don’t sell anything…I get it!)
“The IT helpdesk”; Getting help to connect with VPN, facilitate authorization, and HR with updates on company info and paychecks. OpenText solves this with a fancy “Core Service management” UI. It’s prompting against AI (“Billy” the 🤖) with valuable feedback and where the information is found (not from the interwebs, but locally within your company!).
“Earn your wings”; A program from OT professional services. It’s xECM with the good old business workspaces. Performing like a beast (which we always eXperience differently!) with off-course AI to summarize the content within a BW. Looks great as asking questions against your documents (like PDFs) is always a valuable feature.
…
Here it is…The OpenText CE roadmap:
Watch the “Innovation lab” on JATO User eXperience (UX)…Feedback is asked; I signed up…Let’s see who wants to share thoughts. (At the moment of reviewing this post I didn’t get any calls!?)
…
Challenges we need to face:
With this, OpenText is going to save one billion dollars ($1B) in ten years deploying their own technologies. Employees internally will implement it all and share experiences with their customers to learn from it. Ok! 😇
- “Idea to product”; 10K developer within the organization will use one integrated toolset and ecosystem for faster development cycles, standardization, release management, and scalability. It’s a foundational platform across all phases of development. So, everything is followable with proper reporting and automatic test generation. Great, that’s valueEdge building valueEdge with a closed loop! But how much fun is this for a developer…Sounds to me like someone is watching all day behind my back, but that’s just me.
- “Digital operations”; The corporate helpdesk with 150+ service center employees that all work inefficient with Excel!? (I hope not!), but OT has a solution for this with the fancy name “Service center”. It gives self-service at its core where you can first solve your own problems with the help of…AI (there it is again!). 30% of the requests at the helpdesk is password-resets…WHAT? (I hope not!). This platform solves it now with dashboards, monitoring, and manipulating data out of the box. It even comes with a mobile app so the employee can password reset at home from the couch. 🙃
- “Customer experience”; OT has a complex network with an IT operations management (an overall tool that integrates anything with everything). It reduces every aspect on high velocity at scale. Quick and accurate decisions are critical where machines are far better than humans. Humans innovate; machines do the work. OpenText universal discovery with Configuration Management DataBase (CMDB) removes the manual tasks over automating them.
Some extra numbers at OpenText:
- 60+ products
- 20M business documents
- 4B revenue with 5M contracts (AppWorks specifically quoted!)
- 100B lines of code, 10K developers
- 30K assets
- 330K customers, 100K cases

💡 The “OpenText™ Process Automation” blog post from OpenText.
That’s all my friends, this was the OpenText World update on the content virtually exposed on the digital portal (for us “techies”). We missed some interaction (as expected), but we could still get a grip on some nice-valuable content parts. So, a “DONE” for what it is for now; hopefully, I can join physically next time when it’s all arranged closer at home. Have a great weekend and till the next one…next week.
Don’t forget to subscribe to get updates on the activities happening on this site. Have you noticed the quiz where you find out if you are also “The AppWorks guy”?
